Why Don't Black Women Get Along?

From as early as I could remember Black women have had an issue with one another.  When I was a girl there were cliques and those females that gave you the dirty looks and didn't like you "just because".  Where did that come from?  As an adult I had my share of the looks, comments, and gestures given by women, most commonly Black women and I internalized it.  From the outside looking in I guess I could be intimidating.  But, getting to know me you realize my sensitive nature, my caring demeanor, my selfless acts toward all people.  I went above and beyond sometimes to get along with Black women just because the world criticized us by saying we have nasty attitudes and we'll be the fall of our race.  I contributed to some of the generalizations by not approaching some women and assuming they had problems with me before I got to know them.  I sat listening to some gossip and rumors about actresses, musicians and more famous females and I developed an "attitude" with them just because.  I didn't know anything about them, had never met them to know their personality, or even tried to give them a chance.  My belief of why Black women don't get along is that we are pitted against one another competitively.  The light-skins long hair against the dark skins with short hair; the welfare recipients against college graduates; the naturals against the processed.  It's too many restrictions placed on us getting along and we have let it overcome our minds and spirits and we continue to pass it down generation to generation never thinking that it's a poison to our race.
